🏰 The 2023 Massetino is the 【esteemed 'second wine' of the legendary Masseto estate, quickly becoming one of Tuscany's finest collectibles】. This vintage, a blend of 91% Merlot and 9% Cabernet Franc, offers an incredibly enticing and expressive view of the year's personality. Despite a challenging growing season with abundant spring rains and a hot, dry summer, timely rains in August and cool September nights ensured excellent phenolic and technological maturity. The wine reveals an intoxicating bouquet of fresh red fruit, ripe dark berries, subtle hints of chocolate, cedar, and Mediterranean scrub, with pronounced Cabernet Franc adding tobacco leaf and pencil point. The palate is dense and concentrated yet remarkably silky with vibrant freshness, fine-grained chalky tannins, and layered mineral tones of graphite.
🍴 This elegant and approachable red blend is a versatile partner for a range of flavorful dishes. It pairs beautifully with traditional Tuscan fare like Bistecca alla Fiorentina, Peposo (Tuscan beef stew), or wild boar ragout with pappardelle. Roasted red meats, savory stews, grilled lamb, rich pasta dishes, and hard, aged cheeses are also superb matches. For an Asian pairing, consider a rich Cantonese beef brisket curry or a flavorful Korean bulgogi.
🥂 Massetino is approachable now but possesses the structure and energy to evolve gracefully over time, with a drinking window extending from 2026 through 2040. It's an excellent choice for a sophisticated dinner, a special gathering, or as a valuable addition to any cellar, offering immense potential for graceful aging. Serve at 16-18°C (61-65°F).
BACKGROUND
Masseto is a legendary Italian wine estate located in Bolgheri, Tuscany. Famous for its 100% Merlot flagship wine, it introduced Massetino as its second wine, offering a slightly more approachable but equally luxurious expression of the estate's unique blue clay terroir.
