Comte Georges De Vogue, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru, 2012
🏰news | features + short tasting note IN ENGLISH
【A compelling peppermint and star anis-tinged bouquet that comes racing out of the blocks and begs you to love it.】 The 2012 vintage in Burgundy, despite capricious spring frosts and a tempestuous summer, yielded wines of profound complexity and depth. Domaine Comte de Vogue's Bonnes-Mares vines, located on the Chambolle side with red clay soils, produce velvety-textured, rounder wines with characteristic aromas of violets and wildflowers.
This Grand Cru presents a bright ruby crimson color. Beyond the initial peppermint and star anis, the bouquet offers ebullient raspberry and pomegranate notes, minerals, dried flowers, violets, licorice, cloves, tar, and dark blue and black-toned fruit. The palate is very well balanced with pure black fruit interlaced with mint and spices, a dash of black pepper, and a gentle grip. It is explosive and utterly captivating, showcasing dark raspberry, cherry, and spice flavors with a medicinal reserve and a touch of wildness. Expect a dense, sappy back end with substantial ripe tannins and strong saline minerality.
🍴 Chinese Cantonese food pairing various types of suggestion east or west corresponding to wine cost IN ENGLISH
This elegant Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with classic Cantonese roast duck or goose, enhancing the wine's fruit and spice notes. For Western cuisine, consider game birds like pheasant or quail, or a delicate mushroom risotto.
🥂 fit for event suggestion IN ENGLISH
This is a very backward, powerful wine that will need a long time to fully express itself, making it ideal for a patient collector's cellar. It will gain more volume with bottle age and continues to evolve with promise, worthy of patience for a truly enchanting experience. Perfect for a significant anniversary or a contemplative evening with fellow Burgundy enthusiasts.
Serving Suggestion: This wine is still very young and powerful. Consider decanting for 2-3 hours to allow its complex aromas and flavors to unfold. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is the most significant landowner in Chambolle-Musigny. Their Bonnes-Mares Grand Cru is known for its power, depth, and structure, contrasting with the ethereal nature of Musigny. It offers intense dark fruit, earthy complexity, and requires significant aging to soften its robust tannins.
