FEATURES
🏰 The 1992 La Dame de Montrose is a testament to Château Montrose's winemaking prowess, navigating a challenging Bordeaux vintage marked by heavy rainfall and dilution. While 1992 was broadly considered one of Bordeaux's weakest modern vintages, Montrose, as a top Second Growth, managed to produce a supple and elegant second wine through rigorous selection. Expect an aged profile with deep colour and brick tints, offering woody scents, cocoa notes, black fruit, and brown tobacco on the palate. Montrose's own notes describe a brilliant purple colour with slight evolution, a flattering nose of precious wood, tobacco, floral, and mint notes, with a supple and balanced palate, velvety tannins, and abundant fruit. 【A testament to Château Montrose's winemaking prowess, producing a supple and elegant second wine even in the challenging 1992 vintage】. Given its age, this wine will likely display classic old wine characteristics, with tertiary aromas of dried fruit, leather, and earthy nuances. The fruit may be delicate and fragile. Handle with care, as old corks and capsules can be brittle. Stand the bottle upright for several days to allow sediment to settle. Decant gently for 30-60 minutes to separate sediment and allow the wine to breathe, but be cautious not to over-decant, as very old wines can fade quickly. Serve at 15.5°C (60°F). 🍴 This aged Bordeaux is an ideal partner for classic meat dishes such as grilled or roast lamb, rib-eye steak, beef daube, or game birds. It also pairs excellently with wild mushroom dishes and firm, aged cheeses. 🥂 A rare and reflective experience, best suited for a quiet dinner with fellow wine enthusiasts who appreciate the delicate complexities of a well-aged wine from a challenging yet expertly handled vintage. It’s a piece of history in a bottle.
BACKGROUND
Chateau Montrose is a leading estate of the Saint-Estèphe commune of the Médoc region in Bordeaux. It was ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and is regarded as one of the very best properties at that level. The 95-hectare (235-acre) vineyard exists, unusually for modern Bordeaux, as one single entity. It is sited on an exposed site of deep, coarse gravels with sand and a little clay, overlooking the Gironde. The immediate proximity of the water has a moderating effect on both frost and summer heat, and the pebbles in the soil retain daytime warmth into the evening, aiding ripening. The estate is situated around a mile from Cos d'Estournel and the border with Pauillac. The vineyard is planted to a range of the classic Bordeaux varieties: 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 32 percent Merlot, 6 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Petit Verdot.
