🏰 The 1988 Coquard Loison Fleurot Echezeaux Grand Cru hails from an excellent Burgundy vintage, particularly for reds in the Côte de Nuits. The 1988 vintage was characterized by a warm, dry spring, followed by a mixed summer and a warm, steady September that ensured full phenolic ripeness. This Echezeaux Grand Cru would have been crafted to showcase the 【power, structure, and elegance inherent to this prestigious terroir】. Expect a fully mature wine, with integrated tannins and a complex bouquet of developed fruit, earthy, and savory notes.
🍴 This mature Grand Cru Burgundy is a magnificent partner for classic French cuisine. Think roasted venison with a rich reduction sauce, truffle-infused dishes, or a slow-cooked beef cheek. For an Eastern pairing, consider a refined Cantonese braised pigeon or a delicate stir-fried beef with black truffle, allowing the wine's complexity to complement the umami flavors.
🥂 An exceptional choice for a significant anniversary, a special birthday, or a serious tasting among Burgundy collectors. This wine is likely at its peak or gracefully entering its twilight, offering a wonderful opportunity to experience a mature Grand Cru. Serve at a slightly warmer cellar temperature (around 17-19°C). Be very careful with the cork and capsule, as older wines can be fragile. Decanting for a short period (30-60 minutes) can help remove any sediment and allow the wine to open up, but prolonged decanting might risk losing its delicate aged nuances.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Coquard Loison Fleurot is a wine estate located in Burgundy that produces wine entirely from Pinot Noir. Until recently, these wines were rarely exported, but current commercial director Claire Fleurot and winemaker Thomas Colladot have changed that. Under their guidance, the winery’s reputation has grown significantly. The total vineyard area is approximately 9 hectares (22 acres) spread over 6 different Grand Cru vineyards.
