FEATURES
🏰 The 2004 vintage in the Rhône Valley was generally very good, characterized by a warm spring and hot early summer, followed by a cooler, wetter August that allowed for slower, balanced ripening. A beautiful Indian summer in September ultimately ensured phenolic ripeness. E. Guigal's La Mouline from 2004 is a testament to this, often considered to rival its siblings as 【the wine of the vintage in Côte-Rôtie】. This wine displays soft notes of caramel, cola, bacon fat, litchi nuts, and honeysuckle, alongside cassis and sweet cherry fruit, with black olive and black cherry flavors emerging on the palate. It's described as lush, round, generously endowed, and sensual. Further complexity comes from beautiful spice, potpourri, pepper, and cured meats, complementing plenty of red and black fruit. The style is often lilting and perfumy, with hints of incense, warm raspberry ganache, black tea, mixed berry sorbet, mesquite, and mocha notes, all leading to a supersilky, alluring finish. It's a floral and elegant Syrah, revealing raspberry, violets, and sandalwood over silken tannins and layered minerality, with a cooler vintage enhancing its finesse and detail.
🥂 This iconic Rhône red is perfect for a special occasion, a sophisticated dinner party, or as a thoughtful gift for a collector. Given its age, expect some evolution in the bottle. Older corks can be delicate, so use a proper corkscrew. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any potential sediment. Serve at a cool cellar temperature of 15.5°C (60°F) to highlight its freshness and lift.
🍴 La Mouline is a natural partner for lamb. It also pairs exceptionally well with a wide range of classic meat dishes, including veal, pork, beef, duck, game, and roast chicken, whether roasted, braised, or grilled.
