🏰This 1990 Rene Engel Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru is a 【legendary and highly sought-after red Burgundy】, representing a superb vintage for the region. While specific tasting notes for this exact wine are not available, expect a wine of immense complexity and elegance, with evolved aromas of dried red berries, forest floor, game, and subtle truffle notes, underpinned by fine tannins and a long, graceful finish. This Grand Cru embodies the pinnacle of Pinot Noir expression.
🍴 This prestigious Grand Cru pairs magnificently with classic French cuisine, such as roasted game birds, beef bourguignon, or coq au vin. It also complements mushroom and truffle dishes beautifully, and can be enjoyed with a selection of mature, soft cheeses.
🥂 An extraordinary wine for a truly momentous occasion, a significant anniversary, or a profound tasting experience for dedicated Burgundy aficionados.
For wines of this age, expect a delicate bouquet and nuanced palate. The cork and capsule may be fragile, so careful opening is advised. Decanting for a short period (30-60 minutes) can help the wine open up, but be mindful of very old wines that might fade quickly. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in appropriate glassware to fully appreciate its evolved character.
BACKGROUND
Domaine René Engel was a Burgundy producer known for making some of the top examples of Pinot Noir in Vosne-Romanée, France. The domaine remained in the Engel family for three generations until the death of Philippe Engel in 2005. The domaine's vineyard holdings spanned a total of around six hectares. In 2006, René Engel's vineyard holdings were purchased by François Pinault, owner of the renowned Château Latour, and Domaine d'Eugenie was formed.
