FEATURES
🏰 The 1998 Bordeaux vintage was generally good, with St-Estèphe producing quality wines. While specific tasting notes for La Dame de Montrose 1998 were not detailed, second wines from this era typically offer an earlier drinking window and a more approachable expression of the château's style. Expect a classic claret profile with notes of red and black fruits, possibly some earthy or tobacco nuances, and a firm but integrated tannic structure, reflecting the St-Estèphe terroir. 🍴 This mature Bordeaux is an excellent companion for roasted red meats, such as beef or lamb, as well as hearty stews and aged hard cheeses. Its developed character will complement rich, savoury flavours. 🥂 Ideal for a sophisticated dinner party, a gathering of Bordeaux enthusiasts, or as a thoughtful gift for someone who appreciates mature claret. This 1998 Bordeaux is a mature wine, offering a glimpse into the elegance of an older vintage. When opening, handle the cork gently, as older corks can be delicate. Decanting for 30-60 minutes is recommended to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any potential sediment. Serve at a cool cellar temperature (around 17-18°C). 【Mature claret elegance】
BACKGROUND
Chateau Montrose is a leading estate of the Saint-Estèphe commune of the Médoc region in Bordeaux. It was ranked as a second growth in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification, and is regarded as one of the very best properties at that level. The 95-hectare (235-acre) vineyard exists, unusually for modern Bordeaux, as one single entity. It is sited on an exposed site of deep, coarse gravels with sand and a little clay, overlooking the Gironde. The immediate proximity of the water has a moderating effect on both frost and summer heat, and the pebbles in the soil retain daytime warmth into the evening, aiding ripening. The estate is situated around a mile from Cos d'Estournel and the border with Pauillac. The vineyard is planted to a range of the classic Bordeaux varieties: 60 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 32 percent Merlot, 6 percent Cabernet Franc and 2 percent Petit Verdot.
