FEATURES
🏰 Giacomo Conterno's Monfortino Riserva is arguably the greatest Barolo, only produced in exceptional vintages and representing the pinnacle of traditional Barolo winemaking. The 1999 Barolo vintage produced structured, powerful wines, initially underestimated but later reassessed as firm, classically built, and built for long aging. Antonio Galloni called 1999 one of the truly epic vintages of the last three decades. The 1999 Monfortino offers a brilliant and utterly profound bouquet of black cherries, blood orange, road tar, woodsmoke, fresh herbs, and a kaleidoscopic base of soil. It is full-bodied, deep, and very powerful, with a brilliant core of sappy fruit, stunning purity and focus, perfect balance, and a very, very long, palate-staining, ripely tannic finish. Expect an intense and evolving bouquet of dried cherry, rose petal, tar, leather, truffle, and balsamic herbs, with layers of licorice and sweet tobacco. This monumental yet harmonious wine delivers dense red and black fruit wrapped in firm, noble tannins and supported by vibrant acidity, with mineral and savory undertones carrying through to an endless finish.

🍴 This legendary Barolo is perfect with roasted meats, wild game, rich stews, and aged cheeses.
🥂 A landmark celebration, a serious collector's tasting, or a profound meditation wine. This 1999 Barolo Monfortino Riserva is a legendary wine, now over two decades old and entering a rewarding drinking window, with potential to age for many more decades. Given its age and prestige, handle the bottle with extreme care. A delicate cork is highly probable; use a specialized opener like a Durand or Ah-So. Decant gently for at least 2-3 hours, or even longer, to allow its complex bouquet to fully unfurl and to separate from any sediment. Serve at 18-20°C (64-68°F) in large, broad-bowled glasses to maximize aromatic expression.
