🏰Claude Dugat's Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, even in its nascent 2023 vintage, promises the profound depth and classic structure that defines this esteemed appellation. While specific 2023 Burgundy red vintage reports are still emerging, the broader French vintage was generally generous, with Champagne, for instance, declared a 'solar' vintage with high yields and good ripeness. Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru wines are renowned for their power, structure, and intensity, typically offering 【dark fruit, earthy, and sometimes gamey notes, supported by firm tannins】. This young wine is expected to embody the classic characteristics of its terroir, showcasing the potential for complexity and longevity that Claude Dugat is celebrated for.
🍴 This powerful red Burgundy will be an excellent match for robust dishes such as beef bourguignon, roasted lamb with herbs, duck confit, or game birds. It also pairs beautifully with earthy mushroom dishes or a selection of strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 This 2023 vintage is a wine for collectors to cellar. It is far too young to drink now and will require significant aging to soften its tannins and develop its full aromatic complexity. This is a long-term investment for future enjoyment, perfect for a very special tasting event focused on promising young Burgundy in a decade or two.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Claude Dugat is a Burgundian producer in the Gevrey-Chambertin appellation. This prestigious small winery produces only a small amount of Pinot Noir wine, with its most popular wines coming from designated Grand Crus. The domaine was founded by Claude's father in 1955, when he purchased a 13th-century building and converted it into a winery and cellar. Dugat bottles three Grand Cru red wines from Griotte-Chambertin, Chapelle-Chambertin and Charmes-Chambertin, as well as two Premier Cru wines.
