FEATURES
🏰 The 1999 Chateau Bahans Haut Brion, the second wine of esteemed Chateau Haut-Brion, offers a 【refined and elegant expression of Pessac-Leognan】, with a mature profile and impressive complexity for its vintage. This red Bordeaux presents black cherry, plum, and mineral-scented aromas. It has a medium body, excellent purity, good texture, and firm tannins, showcasing a charming wine with breeding. Evolved aromas of red fruit, leather, mesquite smoke, and petrichor can also be found. 🍴 For this mature Bordeaux, consider pairing with classic Cantonese braised pigeon or a rich beef stew with star anise. For Western cuisine, it excels with delicate meat dishes, braised ox cheek, young venison ribs, roast lamb, grilled beef, duck confit, or aged cheeses. 🥂 Ideal for a special dinner for those who appreciate mature Bordeaux, or a contemplative evening to savor its evolved character. Serving: This 1999 vintage is mature and likely has sediment. Decanting is highly recommended to separate the wine from deposits and allow it to open up. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Handle with care, as the cork may be fragile.
It is a full-bodied red wine from Bordeaux, France, with rich flavors of dark fruits, spices, and a hint of oak, complemented by a long, satisfying finish.
BACKGROUND
Château Haut-Brion is the oldest of Bordeaux's five first growths, and one of the most famous wines in the world. Located in Pessac-Léognan, south of the city of Bordeaux, France. The majority of the estate's 51 hectares (126 acres) of vineyard is planted to red varieties with Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot covering 48 hectares (118 acres) while three hectares (7.5 acres) are given over to Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon. The vineyards were established in the 1530s by the Pontac family, changing hands several times throughout the ensuing centuries. Historical evidence shows that Haut-Brion was drunk by King Charles II and Thomas Jefferson, and the famous London diarist Samuel Pepys was also a fan of the wine.
