🏰 The 1966 Chateau Pichon Lalande is a classic example of Pauillac, known for its deep, concentrated layers of ripe fruit. This vintage, though from a cooler growing season, has held up surprisingly well, delivering a savory and classic profile. Expect a phenomenal taste with a blend of truffle, herbs, tobacco, cedar, and plums on the nose. The palate reveals notes of pencil shavings, dried tobacco leaf, leather, black tea leaf, underbrush, gravel, and mushroom with cassis and redcurrant poking through. It's still medium-bodied with lively acidity and soft, earthy tannins. This wine is singing as a pop-and-pour, showcasing how alive it remains after decades.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux pairs beautifully with classic French dishes like roasted lamb with herbs, beef Wellington, or a rich mushroom risotto. For an Asian twist, consider Cantonese-style braised beef brisket or a savory Peking duck.
🥂 Perfect for a milestone anniversary celebration or a sophisticated dinner party with fellow wine enthusiasts. It's a chance to taste the difference in style and climate compared to today's Bordeaux.
Kindly note that with wines of this venerable age, there's always a charming element of anticipation regarding the cork and capsule. The wine will likely present an old-wine style, offering complex tertiary aromas and a more ethereal, elegant palate than younger vintages. Enjoy the journey of discovery!
