🏰The 2023 Marquis d'Angerville Volnay Taillepieds 1er Cru is a 【highly acclaimed red Burgundy from one of Volnay's finest Premier Cru sites】, known for producing wines of exceptional finesse and racy character. The vineyard's thin, poor, whitish soil with limestone, clay, and sharp pebbles contributes to its unique profile. Early reviews highlight a sublime bouquet of ripe fruit, with pronounced structure in both tannins and acidity, and notes of orange zest rippling through succulent red fruit. It's described as stylish, suave, and very harmonious, with hints of seaweed and oyster shell percolating through dark berry fruit, and a long, mineral finish.
🍴 This elegant Volnay 1er Cru pairs beautifully with delicate meats such as roasted poultry, veal, or lamb. Its finesse and racy character also make it an excellent match for gourmet cheeses, particularly aged cheddar or triple-cream cheeses. Consider dishes with earthy notes like mushroom risotto or truffle-infused preparations to complement its evolving complexity.
🥂 An ideal wine for a celebratory dinner, a special anniversary, or a serious Burgundy tasting. While enjoyable in its youth, this wine is built for aging and will continue to develop complexity and charm over many years, with a broad drinking window extending to 2045.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Marquis d'Angerville is a Burgundy producer focusing on Pinot Noir from highly regarded vineyards in the Côte du Beaune, France. The domaine gained fame in the 1920s when it began to make and bottle its own wine, at a time when the common practice was for élevage and bottling to take place in the hands of négociants. Marquis d'Angerville circumvented the négociants entirely by commercializing its own wine, becoming one of the leading producers to do so. Since the death of Jacques D’Angerville in 2003, the running of the estate is currently overseen by his son Guillaume.
