FEATURES
🏰 Castello di Ama is an iconic Italian winery nestled in the heart of Chianti Classico, with 75 hectares of vines. La Casuccia is a distinguished single-vineyard wine, a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, crafted only in the finest vintages and in limited quantities. The winery is dedicated to producing high-quality Sangiovese that truly expresses the unique terroir of Chianti Classico.
The 2011 vintage in Chianti Classico was characterized by alternating weather patterns: a mild winter, an early spring, and timely rains in May and June. The summer was warm but never extreme, ensuring ideal grape ripening. Late September rains brought cooler temperatures, especially to higher vineyards, which facilitated slower fermentation. Wines from this vintage are described as rich and structured, possessing fine acidity and 'crunchy' tannins, making them well-suited for extended aging. Production for the year saw a 10% decrease.
This wine presents a ruby red colour with garnet hues. The nose offers ripe fruit, undergrowth, herbaceous, and mineral nuances. On the palate, there's an explosion of fruit intertwined with spices, delivering volume, breadth, muscle, and a pleasing persistence. Wine Spectator noted ample black cherry flavours with elements of earth, wild herb, tobacco, tea, and a mineral streak. James Suckling praised its amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits, dried flowers, violets, and tanned leather, with a full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins, and a finish that lingers for minutes. Vinous highlighted rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint, and spices, with a wonderfully fleshy and radiant character. It also exhibits great concentration with notes of old leather armchairs, black cherry, rosemary, and autumn leaves. 【 One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made, with exceptional aging potential 】
🍴 This sophisticated red wine is an excellent companion for refined meat dishes, game (even slow-cooked preparations), and a selection of aged cheeses.
