Joseph Drouhin, Beaune Clos Des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru, 1992
🏰 【A mythical white Burgundy, Joseph Drouhin's Beaune Clos des Mouches Blanc 1er Cru is celebrated for its complexity and elegance, often likened to a Bâtard-Montrachet with the power of a Corton-Charlemagne.】 The 1992 vintage, now beautifully mature, reveals a pale yellow hue. On the nose, expect a complex bouquet of white lilac and rose, evolving into grilled hazelnut and almond, with hints of white truffle, citron, honey, and nutmeg emerging with aeration. The palate is lively, showcasing a rich texture, structure, and minerality, offering a harmonious fullness that is never heavy. This wine is perfect for special occasions or a sophisticated dinner.
🍴 For food pairing, it shines with fish or white meat in sauce, a coconut-lime fish curry, or an omelet with salmon and fennel. It also complements roasted chicken and turkey dishes.
🥂 Given its age, expect potential signs of maturity such as a delicate cork and capsule. To best enjoy this aged beauty, serve it moderately chilled at 11-13°C (53-55°F) and consider decanting for 15-30 minutes to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
BACKGROUND
Joseph Drouhin is one of Burgundy's most important wine producers, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir, with a small portion being Chardonnay. Founded in Beaune in 1880, the domaine has expanded throughout the 20th Century to include vineyards in Chablis, the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the Côte Chalonnaise, making everything from simple, village-level cuvées to highly priced grand cru and premier cru wines from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
