🏰 The 2018 Laurent Ponsot Montrachet Cuvee des Orchidees Grand Cru is a highly sought-after white Burgundy, representing a vintage that produced 【rich, concentrated, and powerful wines with excellent ripeness and freshness】. While specific detailed notes for this exact cuvee are rare due to its exclusivity, Montrachet Grand Cru wines from 2018 are generally characterized by their opulence, depth, and a beautiful balance of fruit and acidity. The 2018 vintage in Burgundy was warm, leading to ripe grapes, but careful vineyard management ensured that many wines retained a crucial freshness. Expect a complex bouquet of white flowers, ripe stone fruit, citrus zest, and a pronounced minerality, often with hints of toasted nuts and a creamy texture from oak aging. This wine is known for its incredible aging potential.
🍴 This majestic Montrachet Grand Cru demands equally grand food pairings. Think luxurious dishes like roasted lobster with butter sauce, pan-seared scallops with truffle, or a rich poultry dish like capon with morel mushrooms. It also pairs exquisitely with aged Comté or other firm, nutty cheeses.
🥂 This is a wine for the most significant celebrations and milestones. Its rarity and prestige make it perfect for a very special anniversary, a high-end corporate event, or a serious collector's tasting. Serve lightly chilled, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to allow its full aromatic complexity to unfold. Decanting is not typically necessary for white Burgundy of this age, but allowing it to breathe in the glass will be beneficial.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Laurent Ponsot is Laurent Ponsot who resigned from Domaine Ponsot in early 2017 and established his own business in Burgundy with his son. For his new venture, he continues to source fruit from his sharecropping arrangement with the Mercier family, which includes plots of Griotte, Chambertin and Chambolle 1er Cru “Les Charmes,” vines grown by Ponsot since 1982.
