🏰 The 1998 Carruades de Lafite hails from a Bordeaux vintage that truly shone for the Right Bank, yet this Left Bank gem has gracefully evolved, now offering 【beautiful red fruit aromas and a lingering finish】. While the vintage was initially celebrated for its Merlot-dominant wines, the Cabernet-based wines from the Left Bank have increasingly opened up, revealing their quality over time. Expect a palate where the tannins are plush and the acidity remains in the background, showcasing a lovely maturity.
🍴 This mature Bordeaux is a classic companion for hearty red meats. Think grilled ribeye steak, slow-braised short ribs, or roasted lamb with rosemary. Its structure also complements rich, earthy dishes like mushroom risotto or truffle pasta. For cheese lovers, aged cheddar, Gouda, or a firm Parmigiano Reggiano would be an excellent match.
🥂 This is an ideal wine for collectors, as the 1998 vintage is now beautifully plateauing in its drinking window, offering both tertiary complexity and ample fruit. It's perfect for a sophisticated dinner party, a special anniversary, or any occasion that calls for a truly elegant and well-aged red wine.
The grapes are harvested from vineyards on the Carruades plateau, adjacent to the Château Lafite flagship vineyards, sharing similar terroir.
The winery selects only one-third of its wine each year for the Lafite flagship, using the remainder for Carruades.
The Lafite flagship is aged in 100% new barrels, which are then used for Carruades the following year.
In the early 20th century, Carruades de Lafite Rothschild became a bestseller after export, gaining more fame than the Lafite flagship. Some sommeliers promoted Carruades de Lafite as a special wine above the Lafite flagship. To correct this unintentional error, the winery renamed Carruades de Lafite to Moulin des Carruades until the 1980s, when they decided to revert to Carruades de Lafite Rothschild...
The 1974 Château Lafite mentioned in an article published in the February 13, 1978 issue of New York Magazine... Rothschild's second label is called Moulin des Carruades.
