Gros Frere Et Soeur, Grands Echezeaux Grand Cru, 1986
🏰 The 1986 布根地 (Burgundy) vintage was a challenging year, marked by rain and rot, making it one of the more difficult years of the decade. However, a late improvement in temperatures and favorable harvest conditions allowed careful growers to produce clean wines. The Côte de Nuits generally fared better than the Côte de Beaune. While most wines from this vintage are now past their peak, the most concentrated bottles from elite producers like Gros Frere et Soeur, stored in ideal conditions, may still offer genuine pleasure. Grands Échezeaux wines are known for their rich and complex aromatic profile, developing notes of forest floor, truffle, and cocoa with age.
🍴 The finesse and intensity of Échezeaux make it a perfect match for sophisticated dishes. Consider roast duck in sweet and sour sauce, pumpkin puree with gingerbread, beef tournedos, or roast chicken with chanterelle mushrooms. Lamb, rib steak, and joints of game are also excellent pairings. For cheeses, Époisses, Bleu de Gex, and Munster are recommended. Red meat in sauce, marinated game, or mature cheeses are also good choices.
🥂 This Grand Cru is a rare and historical bottle, best suited for a very special, intimate tasting among serious collectors or for a significant anniversary. It's a testament to 布根地 (Burgundy)'s aging potential under the right conditions. Handle with extreme care due to the age of the cork and capsule; a Durand or Ah-So opener is recommended. Decant very gently, just before serving, to remove any sediment and allow the wine to breathe briefly, but be mindful of its fragility. Serve at 15-16°C.
