FEATURES
🏰 Domaine Nicole Lamarche's 2002 La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole, a rare and prestigious Pinot Noir from Vosne-Romanée, hails from a "glorious" Burgundy vintage, celebrated for its classical balance, captivating sweet fruit, and pliant texture. The 2002 growing season, marked by ideal weather and healthy grapes, yielded charming, deeply-colored wines with excellent balance and depth. This Grand Cru presents an elegant, pure, and cool nose, revealing spicy black fruit aromas, delicate red fruits, and subtle minerality. The palate is rich and full-bodied with naturally sweet, medium-weight flavors, blessed with fine precision and a vibrant, if youthfully austere, finish, supported by very fine tannins. Burghound rated it 92 points, noting its potential for graceful aging. 🍴 This exquisite Grand Cru demands pairings that match its depth and elegance. It is an ideal match for roasted duck breast with a cherry reduction, herb-crusted lamb chops, or wild mushroom risotto, where its earthy undertones can truly shine. Consider also pairing it with gamey meats, pork, or a selection of fine mature French cheeses like Comté or Brillat-Savarin. 🥂 At 22 years old, the 2002 La Grande Rue Grand Cru Monopole is entering its peak drinking window, showcasing a beautiful evolution of complex flavors while retaining remarkable freshness and purity. To fully appreciate its nuances, serve it at a recommended temperature of 16-18°C (61-64°F). Decanting for about an hour is advisable to allow its bouquet to open gradually, and as with any aged wine, a careful check of the cork and capsule is recommended. This is a wine that promises a truly memorable and sophisticated experience.
BACKGROUND
François Lamarche is a historic winery located in the village of Vosne-Romanée, France. The primary grape variety is Pinot Noir. The winery was founded in the early 20th century by Henri Lamarche and his wife, Marie Grivelet, both of whom hailed from Burgundy and had extensive experience in wine production. In 2019, the current owner, Nicole Lamarche, officially renamed the winery to Domaine Nicole Lamarche, and from the 2018 vintage onwards, the wines no longer bear the name of the former owner, François Lamarche.
