🏰The 2020 Jean Louis Chave Saint Joseph Rouge is a remarkably complex and impeccably made wine, offering an approachable style that can be enjoyed at a younger age compared to their flagship Hermitage. This vintage, bottled in August 2022, showcases classic Saint Joseph characteristics with aromas ranging from violets to rose petals, garrigue, and licorice, complemented by fruit notes of raspberries, blueberries, and cassis. It is backed by ample concentration and ripe, silky tannins, promising excellent evolution over 10-15 years.
🍴 This full-bodied Northern Rhone Syrah pairs beautifully with rich, savory dishes. Consider roasted lamb with herbs, beef bourguignon, grilled portobello mushrooms, or a hearty lentil stew. For a Cantonese twist, try it with braised beef brisket in clear broth or roasted goose.
🥂 Perfect for a sophisticated dinner party or a special occasion where a robust and aromatic red wine is desired. It's also an excellent choice for a cozy evening by the fireplace.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean-Louis Chave is a powerful wine producer headquartered in the village of Mauves in the Saint-Joseph region, across the Rhone River from Hermitage. It owns about 14.5 hectares (36 acres) of land and grapes. The terraced estate now covers eight different plots on the hill, providing a range of mesoclimates and terroirs for Chave wines. Many of the vines are between 30 and 60 years old.
