FEATURES
🏰 The 1959 Paul Jaboulet Aine Cote Rotie Les Jumelles is a truly rare and historic wine from a region considered **【the best in the Rhone Valley】**. This extremely old vintage offers a glimpse into the profound evolution of Syrah. Expect a pale red color with a gorgeous, mature nose of shitake mushroom, minerality, and dried black fruit. The palate is wonderfully mature, with mineral, dried cherry, and tangy notes, leading to a medium-plus finish. Some bottles may show good funk, intact but drying red berries, and light soil tones, even hints of white truffles and earth. One memorable tasting described it as having meaty, mushroomy scents, a rich burgundy color, and a bloody, metallic edge, akin to a rare steak on a wood-fire grill. 🍴 This exceptional, mature Cote Rotie is best paired with equally profound dishes such as medium-rare steak, roasted garlic rosemary red potatoes, or rich game dishes like venison stew. For a truly unique experience, consider it with a delicate truffle pasta. 🥂 A **【once-in-a-lifetime tasting for an old wine enthusiast】**, perfect for a contemplative evening where its history and delicate evolution can be fully appreciated. *Serving Suggestion for Older Vintages:* This 1959 vintage is extremely old, and its condition will vary greatly. Expect a very delicate cork and significant sediment. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week before serving. Decant very carefully, ideally using a fine mesh filter, just before serving. Be prepared for the flavors to be fleeting, as noted in some reviews, with the wine showing its age after about an hour. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Handle with extreme care.
This wine is known for its strong, bright fruit flavors (red berry, black plum, and black cherry) and complex earthy notes (herbs, hickory smoke, and pepper)
BACKGROUND
Paul Jaboulet has been a part of the Rhône Valley wine industry for almost two centuries, beginning with a small plot of land on the hills of Hermitage, before expanding throughout the region. Today, it encompasses more than 100 hectares (250 acres) of vineyards making wines from the northern and southern Rhône, including Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Condrieu and Cornas. The Paul Jaboulet Hermitage La Chapelle is the estate's flagship wine and is one of the most sought-after wines from the Rhône, reaching high prices at auction. It is named for a 13th Century church built atop Hermitage, which became the property of the Maison in 1919. This is made of 100 percent Syrah and the grapes come from the best terroirs the Maison has access to, including famed vineyards Les Bessards, Le Meal and Les Rocoules. There is also a white La Chapelle made from a blend of Marsanne and Roussanne, exclusively from the Les Rocoules estate.
