🏰The 2003 vintage in the Northern Rhône was exceptionally hot, producing powerful, ripe, and concentrated Syrah wines. E. Guigal's Côte Rôtie Brune et Blonde 2003, a benchmark for the appellation, embodies this vintage with its 【intense fruit, robust structure, and evolving complexity】. Expect a wine with a deep color and a bouquet of dark berries, smoked meat, black olive, and floral notes, characteristic of Côte Rôtie. The palate is likely full-bodied with rich, ripe fruit, balanced by firm tannins that have softened with age, leading to a long, savory finish. While a hot vintage, Guigal's expertise ensures balance and aging potential.
🍴 Chinese Cantonese food pairing: This robust Syrah would be magnificent with roasted suckling pig (燒乳豬), braised lamb shank with star anise, or a rich beef stew with root vegetables. For a Western pairing, consider grilled steak, venison, or strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 fit for event suggestion: Ideal for a celebratory dinner, a gathering of Rhône wine enthusiasts, or a special occasion where a powerful and expressive red wine is desired. It's a wine that offers a memorable tasting experience.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
