🏰 【A serious Bourgogne Rouge crafted from roughly 70-year-old vines, the 2023 Sylvie Esmonin Bourgogne Rouge "Cuvee Sylvie" offers a beautifully pure and fragrant expression of Pinot Noir.】 From an organic-minded producer known for transparent wines, this vintage, while initially showing some reduction, opens up to reveal bright and inviting aromatics of red cherry, raspberry, cranberry, and wild strawberry, with hints of violet and a subtle earthy-mineral note. The palate is lively and silky, with bright acidity, gentle tannins, and a clean, lifted finish. It's a wine with more size and volume than expected for a regional bottling, showcasing old vine sap and a suave mouthfeel.
🍴 This incredibly versatile Pinot Noir is perfect for everyday enjoyment. Pair it with classic roast chicken, charcuterie boards, mushroom pasta, or pork tenderloin. It also shines with grilled salmon or a simple mushroom dish.
🥂 Ideal for a casual weeknight dinner, a picnic, or as a versatile crowd-pleaser at a gathering. While enjoyable young for its brightness, this wine is also intended to age and will gain further nuance with a few years in bottle.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Sylvie Esmonin is a wine producer based in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy's Côte de Nuits subegion, producing a range of wines from vineyards sites in both the Côte de Nuits and Côte de Beaune. The majority of the wines produced by the estate are Pinot Noir-based, but it does also have a single white wine within its portfolio made from Chardonnay grapes. The Esmonin family originally came from nobility and has lived in the Burgundy region since the reign of the Dukes of Burgundy (which ended in the 15th Century). The estate was previously known as Domaine Michel Esmonin et Fille, named after the father of the current proprietor, Sylvie Esmonin.
