🏰 The 1990 vintage in Burgundy was glorious, marked by a hot and dry summer with beneficial rains in late August and early September, resulting in wines of both power and poise. Bonneau du Martray's Corton Grand Cru from this esteemed year is a testament to the region's ability to produce exceptional Pinot Noir. Tasting notes often reveal a vibrant profile of red fruits such as raspberry, strawberry, plum, and cassis, complemented by earthy undertones of leather, smoke, and a distinct earthiness. Despite its age, this wine is noted for its freshness, energy, complexity, and remarkable balance, with a long, persistent, and concentrated finish. 【Bonneau du Martray is one of only two estates in Burgundy, alongside Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, that produces exclusively Grand Cru wines】.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with rich dishes such as veal, game meats like deer and venison, and various game birds including duck and goose.
🥂 The 1990 Bonneau du Martray Corton Grand Cru is an excellent choice for a significant celebration or a sophisticated dinner party, especially for those who appreciate the depth and evolution of mature red Burgundy. It's a wine that still shows remarkable youthfulness and has the potential to age for many more decades, making it a truly special experience.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Bonneau du Martray is a highly regarded wine producer based in the village of Pernand-Vergelesses, in the Côte de Beaune subregion of Burgundy's Côte d'Or heartland, France. The domaine was founded by the Bonneau family following the French Revolution, but the vineyards already had a reputation for producing exceptional wines. It is estimated that vines have exsisted here since Roman times and that emperor Charlemagne was a devotee – to the red wines in particular.
