FEATURES
🏰 The 1964 Mommessin Vosne Romanée is a rare glimpse into Burgundy's past, a true testament to the longevity of well-made Pinot Noir from a celebrated appellation. Wines from this era, especially from Vosne Romanée, are known for their elegance and aromatic complexity that develops over decades. While specific tasting notes for this exact bottle are scarce, one can anticipate a wine that has evolved far beyond its primary fruit, offering a delicate tapestry of tertiary aromas such as dried roses, forest floor, truffles, leather, and exotic spices. The palate, if well-preserved, would likely be ethereal, with softened tannins and a lingering, nuanced finish that speaks of its venerable age. It's a journey through time in a glass, revealing the subtle beauty of aged Burgundy. 【 A rare glimpse into Burgundy's past, showcasing decades of elegant evolution 】. Serving Advice: This is a very old and potentially fragile wine. Handle the bottle with extreme care, keeping it upright for several days before serving to allow any sediment to settle. A Durand or Ah-So opener is highly recommended for old corks, which can be brittle. Decanting should be approached cautiously; a slow, gentle decant just before serving to remove sediment is advisable, but avoid excessive aeration which could cause the wine to fade quickly. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F), in large Burgundy glasses to appreciate its delicate aromatics. 🍴 This venerable Vosne Romanée would be best enjoyed with simple, refined dishes that won't overpower its delicate character. Think roasted fowl like pheasant or squab, mushroom-based dishes, or aged Comté cheese. Avoid strong sauces or heavily spiced foods. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly special, intimate occasion, perhaps a significant anniversary or a gathering of serious wine collectors. It's an experience to be savored and discussed, a liquid piece of history.
BACKGROUND
Clos de Tart is a winery located on a Grand Cru single-pole vineyard in Côte d'Or in Burgundy. It dates back to the 12th century when the convent was built by the Cistercian nuns of Notre Dame de Tate. In 2017, French billionaire François Pinault purchased the domaine for more than $260 million. The vineyard covers 7.5 hectares (18.5 acres) and received Grand Cru status in 1939. The estate only produces two wines, both from Pinot Noir, the Grand Cru Clos de Tart and the Premier Cru La Forge de Tart, which carries the Morey-Saint-Denis designation.
