FEATURES
🏰 The 2007 Domaine Jamet Côte Rôtie Côte Brune is a thrilling and dramatic Syrah from the Northern Rhône [38]. This cuvée is a single parcel selection, produced since 1976, originating from the esteemed schistose soils of the 'Côte Brune' lieu-dit [40, 43]. Domaine Jamet is celebrated for its meticulous respect for terroir and for crafting wines with a 【very personal 'stamp', recognizable, chic, and phenomenal keeping potential】 [39, 40]. The grapes are harvested as late as possible to achieve optimum ripeness [40]. This wine presents an inky ruby color [7] and offers brooding, deeply concentrated aromas of dark berries, cherry-cola, graphite, and cured meat, with a strong overlay of violet and rose [7]. It is rich, broad, and sweet on the palate, delivering vivid black raspberry and candied violet flavors, along with a gentle coffee note [7]. The texture is powerful and concentrated, revealing floral and fruity aromas of black berries, enhanced by elegant spicy notes [40]. Further complexities include black olives, a slightly smoky character, and in cooler years, camphor or menthol notes [39]. Reviewers have also noted a sexy nose of coffee grind, sauvage, cinders, Christmas spices, and mineral and soil notes on the full-bodied palate [38]. For a wine of this age, careful handling is crucial. Older corks can be fragile, so a specialized opener is recommended. Decanting for 1-2 hours is often beneficial to allow the wine to breathe and separate from any sediment, but monitor closely as older wines can be delicate. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). 🍴 Food pairing suggestions: This robust Syrah is an excellent match for lamb [43], roasted game, red meats, and rich stews. Consider pairings with dishes featuring black olives or herbs de Provence to complement its savory notes. 🥂 Event suggestions: With phenomenal keeping potential and still considered young by some, this wine is ideal for a serious wine tasting, a celebratory dinner, or as a prized addition to a cellar for further aging and enjoyment [38, 40].
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jamet is a renowned wine producer located in Ampuis, at the heart of the northern Rhône wine region in France, celebrated for its traditional Cote Rotie wines. The estate spans about seven hectares (17 acres) of vineyards, scattered across small plots in the Côte Brune and Côte Blonde areas of Côte Rotie. Predominantly, the vineyards are planted with Syrah, complemented by minor plantings of Marsanne, Viognier, and Roussanne. Founded by Joseph Jamet in 1950. By 1976, Domaine Jamet started bottling its own wines. After Joseph retired, his sons Jean-Luc and Jean-Paul ran the estate. Currently, Jean-Paul and Corinne Jamet oversee the domaine, joined by their son Loïc since 2015.
