FEATURES
🏰 The 1989 vintage for Chateau Leoville Barton is considered exceptional, a quintessential representation of St-Julien's brilliance. Optimal weather conditions, including a warm spring and hot summer with timely rainfalls, led to ripe grapes, full-bodied flavors, and robust tannins. This vintage is noted for its elegance in age and holds an exceptional status within investment portfolios, with some critics even suggesting it might outlast the more renowned 1990 vintage. Upon tasting, this wine presents a dark garnet hue with hints of amber, indicative of its maturity. The bouquet is rich with blackcurrant and cedar notes, evolving to reveal complex layers of tobacco and leather, intertwined with savory spices from its oak aging. Further aeration can bring forth notes of cigar box, earth, wet sand, chestnut, and brambly red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied, elegant, and harmonious, with a firm mid-palate and a crescendo of flavors towards a persistent finish, showcasing great structure. Graphite notes become prominent with time in the glass. 🥂 This wine is ideal for discerning investors and connoisseurs, perfect for significant celebrations where an aged, classic Bordeaux is truly appreciated. Its enduring freshness and well-integrated acidity ensure it's enjoyable now, with potential for further graceful aging. Given its age, handle this wine with utmost care. The cork may be fragile, so a Durand opener is highly recommended. Decanting for 45 minutes to 3 hours is advised to allow the complex aromas and flavors to fully open and any sediment to settle. Serve at approximately 15.5°C (60°F) to best appreciate its nuances. 🍴 Food pairings include beef and venison, broiled lobster tail, and Wagyu filet mignon. It also complements classic meat dishes, roast lamb, or simply prepared game birds, avoiding heavy sauces. Mushroom dishes or aged hard cheeses like Comté or Gruyere would also be excellent choices. 【Exceptional status within investment portfolios and potential to outlast the 1990 vintage】
BACKGROUND
Château Léoville Barton is a vineyard in the Saint-Julien region of Bordeaux, ranked a second growth in the 1855 Classification. The vineyard, which has gravel soils over clay, is planted 74 percent to Cabernet Sauvignon, 23 percent to Merlot and 3 percent to Cabernet Franc. After a manual harvest, fermentation takes place in large temperature-controlled wooden vats, and then the wine is aged in 50 percent new oak barrels.
