🏰The 2003 Geantet-Pansiot Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes is a compelling expression of 【Domaine Geantet-Pansiot's commitment to nuanced single-vineyard expressions and exceptional Pinot Noir】, even from the challenging yet ripe 2003 Burgundy vintage. This wine, from a domaine synonymous with powerful and structured Pinot Noir, presents a rustic style with assertive tannins and a lasting impression of sweet fruit. Expect pungent aromas of musk, smoke, and animale, alongside sweet cherry and spice notes, with stony elements and dark red cherry fruits. Now showing age, it offers sufficient secondary flavors like leather and forest floor, making it very interesting to drink.
🍴 This Gevrey-Chambertin pairs beautifully with roasted red meats, game birds like duck or pheasant, and earthy dishes such as mushroom-based pasta or truffle-infused risottos. For an Eastern touch, consider Cantonese roasted squab or a rich braised pork belly.
🥂 An excellent choice for a special dinner celebrating the evolution of Burgundy, or for a tasting focused on mature Pinot Noir. This 21-year-old wine is showing well now. Handle the cork and capsule with care, and use an old-wine opener if available. Decant gently for 30-60 minutes to allow it to open up and to separate any sediment. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F).
BACKGROUND
Geantet-Pansiot is a wine producer located in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. It is famous for its Pinot Noir wines from Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny, and also produces a variety of Burgundy AOC wines. The estate was founded in 1954 when newlyweds Edmond Geantet and Bernadette Pansiot purchased a three-hectare (seven-acre) vineyard on the edge of Gevrey-Chambertin. Today, the vineyards total 13 hectares (32 acres), mainly through agricultural contracts.
