🏰 The 1996 vintage in Cornas, while not universally lauded, produced wines with a fresh character, high acidity, and tight tannins. Auguste Clape, a legendary name in Cornas, is known for crafting traditional and age-worthy Syrahs that deeply respect the land and express authenticity and terroir. The 1996 Auguste Clape Cornas is described as having an autumnal nose with fallen leaves and whiffs of charcuterie, a medium-bodied palate, and a focused, direct style. Vinous notes a suave, Burgundy-like character with gently sweet raspberry and cherry flavors, floral and baking spice accents, and a touch of smokiness. Jancis Robinson perceptively suggests 'the intriguing scent of old libraries' as a defining feature, indicating a wine that has gracefully matured. 【A benchmark of traditional, age-worthy Cornas Syrah】.
🍴 This mature Cornas would be an exceptional pairing for roasted lamb, braised short ribs, hearty stews, or gamey meats. Its savory and earthy notes also complement dishes with truffles and mushrooms. For Eastern cuisine, consider robust Cantonese roast meats or a rich, slow-cooked beef stew with star anise.
🥂 Ideal for a connoisseur's tasting, a special occasion celebrating a milestone, or a gathering where a powerful yet nuanced aged red wine is appreciated. It's a wine that rewards patience and offers a complex drinking experience.
