🏰 The 1994 Auguste Clape Cornas is an 【outstanding and characterful Northern Rhône Syrah, offering a classic expression of its terroir with a rustic charm that is drinking beautifully now】. The 1994 vintage for Cornas is noted as an outstanding effort, being more open-knit, opulent, and easier to drink than the 1995 at a young age. This wine presents a pretty classic nose with rare meat, black olive, violets, dark fruits, and tar, with prominent olive and bacon fat notes. On the palate, it is mid-weighted and savory rather than overtly fruit-driven, very well-balanced, and honest. While it may be a little rough around the edges, it embodies the classic 1990s era Cornas style. The tannins are mostly resolved, and the olive notes on the nose and olive tapenade on the palate are massive, making it a rustic wine in the best way. It is rich, deep, and racy, with great tannic texture.
🍴 This robust Syrah is an excellent pairing for hearty dishes such as roasted lamb, game meats like venison or wild boar, beef stews, or dishes featuring black olives and herbs. Its savory and rustic character would also complement grilled red meats or strong, aged cheeses.
🥂 This wine is drinking very well right now, making it an excellent choice for a special dinner with friends or for those who appreciate the evolved complexity of mature Northern Rhône Syrah. While the cork and capsule of older wines can sometimes be a concern, a well-preserved bottle of this vintage promises a truly rewarding experience.
Serving suggestion: Decant for at least an hour to allow the wine to fully express its mature aromas and flavors. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
