FEATURES
🏰 The Wittmann family, pioneers in organic (1990) and biodynamic (2004) viticulture, has been cultivating grapes and producing wine in Westhofen, Rheinhessen, since 1663. Philipp Wittmann, recognized as Germany's Winemaker of the Year in 2014, is dedicated to crafting balanced wines that exhibit tension, depth, and intensity, while maintaining freshness and elegance. Their wines are predominantly matured in wooden casks within a historic vaulted cellar dating back to 1829. Kirchspiel is a premier vineyard site characterized by heavy clayey marl with loess loam and shallow topsoil over limestone, opening like an amphitheater towards the Rhine with an east-to-southeast exposure.
The 2023 vintage in Rheinhessen is celebrated as one of the finest recent vintages, successfully combining both quality and quantity. The growing season provided ample moisture, mitigating drought stress, and warm autumn weather ensured optimal ripeness. Rieslings from this year display excellent concentration balanced by refreshing acidity. The vintage yielded healthy crops and wines with superb balance between ripeness and acidity, pure fruit expression, moderate alcohol levels, and significant aging potential. Many consider 2023 a classic, high-quality vintage, reminiscent of the balance found in 2019 but with enhanced freshness and elegance. 【 Pioneer in biodynamic viticulture, crafting Rieslings of unique character, great terroir, and high quality from a top vineyard site 】
