🏰 The 2006 Quella marked the debut vintage for Bond's single-vineyard series, with its name derived from the German word for a pristine source. This Cabernet Sauvignon is sourced from a steeply sloped, southwest-facing property in Napa Valley, characterized by an ancient riverbed of cobble and rocks interwoven with volcanic ash (tufa). Robert Parker initially described the 2006 Quella as the most austere of Bond's wines, requiring considerable aging.
This dense, rich, and elegant wine displays impressive notes of espresso roast intermixed with blackberry and floral-infused blue fruits. It offers complex, perfumed aromas of ripe cherry, plum, and currant, unfolding slowly to reveal greater depth and concentration with a long, persistent finish. A resonant umami character, akin to grilled hedgehog mushrooms, adds to its vinous and fresh profile, with a clarity and surety predicting a long life. Some notes also mention a slightly overripe, raisiny-pruny character with hard, drying tannins. 【 The inaugural vintage of Bond's single-vineyard Quella, showcasing a unique terroir of ancient riverbed and volcanic ash 】
🍴 Bond Quella 2006 is an excellent companion for beef and venison. It also pairs well with lamb, deer, and various poultry dishes, as well as mature and hard cheeses.
🥂 Originally recommended for considerable aging, this wine is now mature. Recent reviews suggest that while it still has tight tannins, the fruit might be fading, indicating it's time to enjoy. It's a wine for serious collectors of Napa Cabernet. Decanting is advisable to allow it to open up and to manage any potential sediment. Serve at around 16-18°C.
