🏰The 1997 E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Landonne is an 【amazing achievement for the vintage】, with Robert Parker rating it a nearly perfect 98 points. This was a solid vintage for Guigal La Landonne, showcasing exceptional quality. It presents a saturated purple color, with intense and powerful aromas of licorice, roasted meats, coffee, toasty oak, plums, and blackberries. The wine is remarkably smoky, earthy, and terroir-driven, offering exceptional expansiveness on the palate, sweet tannins, low acidity, and a ripe, robust finish. It is full-bodied and concentrated, yet possesses an elegance to its ripe, dark fruits, with a plush and somewhat wild texture.
🍴 This powerful and concentrated red wine pairs beautifully with classic meat dishes such as roasted lamb, beef tenderloin, game, or rich stews. Its smoky and earthy notes also complement grilled meats and dishes with a hint of spice.
🥂 Perfect for a luxurious dinner, a special celebration, or as a prized addition to a serious wine collector's cellar. This wine is capable of lasting for two decades or more, with an anticipated maturity extending to 2025.
BACKGROUND
E Guigal is one of the most famous wine producers in the Rhône. The company was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis on the west bank of the Rhone, just a stone's throw from the famous sun-baked slopes of the Côte Rôtie. Guigard's flagship wines are the famous "LaLa": La Landonne, La Mouline and La Turque. La Landonne is 100% Syrah, from 40-year-old vines and aged in oak barrels for a similar amount of time.
