The 1971 Salon S Le Mesnil Blanc de Blancs is an exceptionally rare and iconic vintage Champagne, a testament to Salon's philosophy of producing only a single Blanc de Blancs from a single vintage in truly exceptional years. The 1971 vintage for Champagne was challenging, marked by frosts, cold, and hail, but a spectacular September saved the harvest, yielding good quality, elegant, and age-worthy wines. Salon, known for its unwavering dedication to quality and rarity, only released 37 vintages in the entire 20th century. Expect a light amber or golden straw color. The nose is expressive with a lot of orange and apricot marmalade, tea, lemon curd, honey, a hint of toffee, roasted macadamia, almond paste, and mineral notes. The palate is fully harmonized, with a still very good amount of fine mousse, pure succulent yellow fruit, bright acidity, and a seamless, long finish. It can be zesty, with ripe pear, baked brioche, and white peach.

A truly rare and luxurious celebration, a milestone anniversary, or a connoisseur's tasting where its historical significance and evolved complexity can be savored.
Serving Suggestion: This is a very old Champagne, and while top examples can still be superb, bottle variation is possible. Handle with extreme care, as the cork may be fragile. Serve well-chilled but not ice-cold to allow its complex tertiary aromas to shine. Decanting is generally not recommended for old Champagne, but a brief aeration in the glass can be beneficial. Appreciate the historical journey this wine represents.
