Henri Jayer's Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1er Cru 1998 is an exceptionally rare and highly sought-after wine, representing the pinnacle of Pinot Noir. At 26 years old, this wine offers a profound and complex tasting experience. Expect a captivating bouquet of bright cherry fruit, exotic spice, and mineral notes, with an incredible texture and purity on the palate. Developed tertiary aromas of forest floor, truffle, and savory undertones would have emerged, showcasing the wine's remarkable evolution and depth. 【Legendary winemaker Henri Jayer's rare masterpiece】.
🥂 This iconic wine is reserved for the most extraordinary occasions, such as a once-in-a-lifetime celebration, a significant milestone, or a private tasting among the most discerning collectors. It's a wine to be shared with reverence and deep appreciation for its historical significance and unparalleled quality.
Serving Advice for Older Vintages: Older wines, especially those over two decades, can be fragile. Handle the bottle with extreme care to avoid disturbing any sediment. Stand it upright for several days, or even a week, before serving. A very gentle decanting for 30-60 minutes is often recommended to separate sediment and allow the wine to slowly open, but be cautious not to over-aerate, which can dissipate delicate, aged aromas. The cork may be very fragile; a professional corkscrew like a Durand or Ah-So is highly recommended. Serve slightly below room temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F).
🍴 This sublime Pinot Noir pairs exquisitely with classic Burgundian fare and delicate game. Consider roasted duck with a rich sauce, game birds like pheasant or partridge, or a refined rabbit ragoût. It also complements dishes featuring truffles or wild mushrooms, and soft, earthy cheeses. For an Eastern pairing, a delicate Peking duck or a refined mushroom hotpot would be exceptional.
BACKGROUND
Henri Jayer is a Burgundy red wine producer known for making some of the most acclaimed and expensive Pinot Noirs in the world. Jayer retired from winemaking in 2001 and died in 2006, leaving the winery to his nephew Emmanuel Rouget, with all vintages since 2001 released in his name. Henri Jayer's wines were produced in limited quantities and in dwindling quantities, making them some of the most collectible and expensive wines in the world. While critically acclaimed, the reputation of Jayer wines was further enhanced by the emergence of wine-related books such as the Japanese manga series Drops of God. The brand itself was founded by Jayer when he inherited 3 hectares (7 acres) of land in the Côte d'Or, which included land in the Grand Cru Echézeaux vineyard.
