FEATURES
🏰 The 1976 Henri Jayer Richebourg Grand Cru is a legendary bottling from one of Burgundy's most revered winemakers, whose wines hold mythical status and are incredibly rare. Despite 1976 being a hot and challenging vintage, Jayer's meticulous approach allowed him to craft an exceptional wine that combines power with supreme elegance. Expect an 【evolved ruby color, with a complex and slowly unfurling bouquet of red and black fruits, delicate floral notes like roses and violets, intertwined with earthy undertones of leather, mint, and truffle, and hints of spice and caramel】. The palate, once tightly wound, should now reveal a medium-bodied, velvety texture with balanced acidity and a long, ripe finish, showcasing Jayer's signature balance and concentration. 🍴 This profound and mature Grand Cru Pinot Noir demands thoughtful pairing. Opt for classic, refined dishes such as roasted game (deer, venison), red meat, or poultry, especially when accompanied by earthy elements like mushrooms (morels, truffles) and onion confit. Mild, aged cheeses also make a superb accompaniment. 🥂 This is a wine for a truly momentous occasion – a significant anniversary, a milestone celebration, or a private tasting among serious collectors. It's an opportunity to experience a piece of Burgundy's winemaking history. Serving suggestion: Given its venerable age, extreme care is advised. The cork and capsule will be fragile. Stand the bottle upright for at least a week to allow any sediment to settle. Decant very gently, if at all, just before serving, to separate from sediment and allow a brief aeration. Serve at a cellar temperature of 15-16°C (59-61°F). Be prepared for the unique character of an old wine, where tertiary aromas and delicate structure take center stage. The condition of the bottle is paramount for such an old vintage.
BACKGROUND
Henri Jayer is a Burgundy red wine producer known for making some of the most acclaimed and expensive Pinot Noirs in the world. Jayer retired from winemaking in 2001 and died in 2006, leaving the winery to his nephew Emmanuel Rouget, with all vintages since 2001 released in his name. Henri Jayer's wines were produced in limited quantities and in dwindling quantities, making them some of the most collectible and expensive wines in the world. While critically acclaimed, the reputation of Jayer wines was further enhanced by the emergence of wine-related books such as the Japanese manga series Drops of God. The brand itself was founded by Jayer when he inherited 3 hectares (7 acres) of land in the Côte d'Or, which included land in the Grand Cru Echézeaux vineyard.
