🏰 The 1997 Haegelen Jayer Clos Vougeot Grand Cru is a red Burgundy from a historic and famous Grand Cru vineyard. Clos Vougeot wines, made from Pinot Noir, are known for their intense colors, ranging from strawberry red to deep garnet, and often exude alluring aromas of blackberries, raspberries, cherries, mint, and truffle, with a long finish. Haegelen-Jayer is known for producing classic Clos de Vougeot Grand Cru with excellent aging potential. While specific detailed tasting notes for the 1997 vintage are not readily available, a wine of this age from a Grand Cru vineyard would have developed significant tertiary aromas and a more mellow palate. Expect notes of dried fruit, forest floor, leather, and subtle spice, with softened tannins. 【 A classic expression of Clos Vougeot Grand Cru with proven aging potential 】. This is a wine that has gracefully matured, offering a glimpse into Burgundy's past. When opening such an aged bottle, be mindful of the cork, which may be fragile; a two-pronged cork puller or Durand is advisable. The capsule might also be delicate. Serve at cellar temperature, around 16-18°C (60-64°F). Decanting is recommended only for a short period (30-60 minutes) to allow the wine to breathe and to separate any sediment. Handle with utmost care to preserve its delicate structure.
🥂 This 1997 Clos Vougeot is perfect for a very special anniversary, a significant birthday, or a gathering of serious Burgundy enthusiasts who appreciate the nuances of aged Pinot Noir.
🍴 Ideal food pairings include roasted red meats like lamb or rare fillet steak, game (deer, venison), roast chicken, roast pork, or aged cheeses. For an Eastern pairing, consider a delicate braised pigeon or a refined mushroom and truffle dish.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Haegelen-Jayer, like Domaine Henri Jayer, is a now-defunct estate, with 2009 being its final vintage. Located in the village of Vosne-Romanée in Burgundy, France, the winery primarily cultivated Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes. It was established by Henri Jayer's niece, Madeleine Jayer, and her husband, Alfred Haegelen.
