🏰The 1998 Bernard Dugat Py Chambertin Grand Cru hails from a vintage that, while not universally declared as exceptional, often produced wines of good structure and longevity in Burgundy. Bernard Dugat Py is renowned for crafting powerful and concentrated wines, and this Chambertin Grand Cru is a testament to their meticulous approach. As a wine from 1998, it has had ample time to evolve, showcasing the elegance and complexity that older Burgundy reds can achieve.
【Expect a captivating bouquet of mature red and black fruits, evolving into nuanced notes of forest floor, truffle, and subtle spice, with a silky texture and a long, refined finish.】 This wine, at over two decades old, will likely display tertiary aromas and a softer tannic profile than its youth. The color would have shifted from a vibrant ruby to a more garnet or brick-red hue.
🍴 This mature Chambertin Grand Cru would be exquisite with finely prepared roasted or stewed meats, such as beef, lamb, or game. It also pairs wonderfully with medium to mature cheeses. Avoid overly strong or spicy dishes that might overpower its delicate aged characteristics.
🥂 Ideal for a significant anniversary, a milestone celebration, or a contemplative evening with fellow wine enthusiasts. Given its age, careful handling is paramount. Ensure the bottle has been stored horizontally in a cool, dark, and humid environment. Stand the bottle upright for at least 24-48 hours before serving to allow any sediment to settle. Decant gently to separate the wine from its natural sediment, which is common in older, unfiltered wines. Serve at 14-16°C (57-61°F) to allow its complex aromas to fully unfold.
