🏰 From the cult producer Bizot, known for its extremely rare and highly sought-after natural wines, the 1996 Echezeaux Grand Cru is a true collector's item. The 1996 Burgundy vintage was a classic, celebrated for its high acidity and firm tannins, promising 【exceptional longevity and complex evolution】. This wine presents a cloudy garnet color with a stemmy nose, hints of farmyard, and a strict palate revealing cured meat and red fruit, underpinned by strong acidity, offering a funky and complex profile. Expect pungent and balanced tones of blue fruits, red berries, earthy notes, and a good amount of Asian spices. It has a supple texture and density, finishing with finer, sweeter tannins and subtle length.
🍴 This mature Burgundy Pinot Noir is a superb match for roasted game birds, rich mushroom risotto, Coq au Vin, or Beef Bourguignon. It also complements earthy truffle dishes and a selection of aged, complex cheeses.
🥂 A magnificent choice for a milestone anniversary, a serious wine tasting, or a very special intimate dinner. This is an older wine, so a gentle reminder about the condition of old corks and capsules is prudent. Decanting is highly recommended for 1-2 hours to remove any potential sediment and allow the wine's intricate bouquet to fully express itself. Serve at 16-18°C.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Jean Yves Bizot is a small Burgundy wine producer located in the Côte de Nuits, making Pinot Noir on several small plots of the Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru vineyard and the Grand Cru chézeaux vineyard. It also produces small amounts of Chardonnay at the village and Burgundy Blanc levels, and has plots in Massanai and Burgundy Chapit. The total area of the estate is just over three hectares. The current incarnation of the domaine was founded in 1995, when Jean Yves Bizot, a professor of oenology, inherited the domaine and vineyards from his family and followed a largely unconventional winemaking process.
