🏰 The 1998 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 1er Cru is a testament to the aging prowess of fine white Burgundy. While specific vintage notes for this exact wine in 1998 are rare, the vintage in Burgundy was generally considered good, producing wines with a balance of richness and acidity that allowed for graceful aging. Leflaive is renowned for crafting Chardonnay that expresses its terroir with purity and precision. Expect this wine to have evolved into a complex symphony of flavors, with notes of toasted nuts, honey, dried white flowers, and a lingering minerality. The vibrant acidity that characterized it in youth would have softened, integrating beautifully with the developed fruit and savory nuances. 【Purity and precision of Leflaive's terroir expression】
🍴 This mature Puligny-Montrachet would be exquisite with rich seafood dishes like lobster or scallops in a butter sauce, roasted chicken with truffles, or creamy mushroom risottos. Its evolved character can also complement aged Comté or other firm, nutty cheeses.
🥂 This is a wine for a truly contemplative occasion, a celebration of a significant anniversary, or a gathering of serious white Burgundy aficionados. It's a privilege to experience such a mature expression of a prestigious Premier Cru.
Serving advice: Given its age, the cork of this 1998 vintage may be fragile. A two-pronged cork puller or a Durand is highly recommended. Decanting is generally not needed for aged white Burgundy, as excessive aeration can dissipate delicate aromas. Instead, open the bottle 30-60 minutes before serving and allow it to breathe gently in the bottle. Serve at a cool cellar temperature, around 12-14°C (54-57°F), to allow its complex bouquet to unfold slowly.
