【A legendary and extremely rare Côte-Rôtie from Marius Gentaz-Dervieux, a precursor to Domaine René Rostaing, known for its idiosyncratic, old-style Rhône character and incredible aging potential.】 Marius Gentaz-Dervieux was a true legend in Côte-Rôtie, producing a single wine from old Syrah vines, aged in ancient barrels and bottled by hand. His wines, including the Côte Blonde La Garde (blended with a little Viognier), were known for their hearty, rustic character in youth, evolving beautifully with age. Today, only a few bottles remain, making them highly sought after as a piece of Rhône history. Expect a complex bouquet of earthy, barnyardy aromas, intertwined with ripe blackberry and cherry notes, evolving to reveal layers of spice, bacon fat, coffee, leather, and game.

This exceptional, aged Côte-Rôtie is perfect for rich red meat dishes, especially those with smoky and spicy elements, such as cassoulet, beef brisket, venison, duck, or lamb. It also pairs wonderfully with venison stew, braised lamb shanks, herb-crusted rack of lamb, roasted duck, steak au poivre, or Kurobuta pork. Consider game (feathered and furred) and cured meats for a truly authentic experience.

Given its age (1979), expect potential for bottle variation and be prepared for an old cork and capsule. A simple splash decant to remove sediment and wake the wine up is all that is needed. Serve at 16-18°C (61-64°F). This wine offers a unique glimpse into a bygone era of winemaking, a testament to terroir and minimal intervention.
