🏰 The 1996 vintage in 布根地 was characterized by a hot, dry summer followed by a cool, wet autumn, allowing grapes to ripen slowly while retaining good acidity. Pommard, a prestigious appellation in the Côte de Beaune, is renowned for producing powerful and tannic red wines with significant aging potential.
This Pommard Grand Vin from Chateau de Pommard is described as a powerful and elegant wine, offering aromas of red fruits and undergrowth. On the palate, it boasts a beautiful tannic structure and a long finish. It presents a rich, dense ruby color, with an expressive and powerful nose hinting at liquorice and blackcurrant. The palate shows a high concentration of tannins balanced by the vintage's characteristic acidity, culminating in dark cherry flavors on the finish. Some notes also describe good fruit concentration with dominant redcurrant, and a slightly harsh acidity coupled with grainy tannins, indicative of a traditional, rustic Pommard style. 【 A powerful and elegant expression of Pommard from a classic 布根地 vintage, known for its aging potential 】
🍴 This red 布根地 pairs perfectly with red meat dishes such as beef tenderloin, prime rib, or leg of lamb. It can also be enjoyed with soft cheeses like Camembert or Brie. Further excellent pairings include duck, goose, game birds, duck confit, and beef Bourguignon, as well as mature cheeses.
🥂 The 1996 Pommard is a mature wine that can be enjoyed now, though it also possesses the structure to be kept in the cellar for several more years. Serve between 16-18°C after aerating for about an hour to fully appreciate its developed complexities. Decanting is recommended to allow the wine to open up and to manage any potential sediment.
