FEATURES
🏰 The 1999 Le Petit Mouton de Mouton Rothschild comes from a vintage that, despite some climatic challenges, produced grapes of good quality with high potential alcohol and excellent balance. The spring and summer were relatively hot, with timely rainfall ensuring good vine growth. This second wine of Château Mouton Rothschild, a blend predominantly of Cabernet Sauvignon, offers a beautiful deep red colour and a highly aromatic nose. Expect fruit aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry, intertwined with notes of hazelnut, toasted almond, violet, and a touch of vanilla. The palate is round and substantial, with well-rounded tannins and a long, generous finish. 【 A ripe, seductive, and aromatic second wine from a Premier Cru Classé 】. It's described as a fleshy effort with notes of mocha, spice box, cassis, and oak.
🍴 This elegant Bordeaux is an excellent match for classic beef dishes, such as roasted fillet of beef, venison, or a rich lamb stew. Its well-rounded tannins and fruit profile also make it suitable for mature hard cheeses. For an Eastern pairing, consider Cantonese roast beef or a rich soy-braised duck.
🥂 Ideal for a special family gathering, a sophisticated dinner with friends, or as a thoughtful gift for a Bordeaux lover. It's a wine that has matured gracefully and offers considerable distinction and character.
BACKGROUND
Château Mouton Rothschild is located in the commune of Pauillac, in the Medoc, 30 miles (50km) northwest of the city of Bordeaux. The estate comprises 90 hectares (222 acres) of vineyards, mainly on gravel-based soils, and is situated in the northern part of the commune just south of Château Lafite Rothschild. Most of the vineyard is planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, with 15 percent planted to Merlot and a small amount of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The vineyard, typically for top Medoc estates, is densely planted and the average vine age is more than 40 years old. Harvest is done by hand, and the juice is fermented in oak vats in a gravity-fed vat room opened in 2012. After fermentation, the wine sees 22 months in new oak before bottling.
