🏰The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was challenging due to frost and hail, resulting in significantly reduced yields. However, for those who managed to harvest, the wines often show excellent freshness, purity of fruit, and classic Burgundian elegance. Joseph Roty is a revered, traditional producer known for their concentrated and long-lived wines. "Les Ouzeloy" is a well-regarded lieu-dit within Marsannay, and this 2021 offers a 【vibrant red Burgundy with bright acidity and a focus on red fruit purity】.
Expect aromas of fresh red cherries, raspberries, and cranberries, possibly with subtle floral notes and a hint of minerality or damp earth. The palate should be medium-bodied, lively, with crisp red fruit flavors, fine tannins, and a refreshing, elegant finish. It will likely benefit from a few years in the cellar to soften and develop further complexity.
🍴 This vibrant red Burgundy would be excellent with lighter red meat dishes such as roasted chicken, pork tenderloin with herbs, or charcuterie. It also pairs well with earthy mushroom dishes, lentil stews, or mild, creamy cheeses.
🥂 A great choice for a casual yet elegant dinner with friends, a Sunday roast, or an evening where you want to enjoy a classic, food-friendly Burgundy that offers both freshness and depth.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Joseph Roty is one of Burgundy's leading wineries with the largest cult following in the country. The family has been producing wine since 1710 and has 12 hectares (30 acres) of vines with an average age of over 60 years, producing a range of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines considered to be some of the best on the Côte d'Or. one. The core estate is none other than Joseph Rotti, himself a legend in the region who died in 2008 not only because of the quality of the wines, but also because of his reluctance to be interviewed by reporters and share details of their winemaking methods.
