Fourrier, Gevrey Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru, 2016
🏰 The 2016 Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin Les Champeaux 1er Cru is a 【superb Burgundy Pinot Noir, praised for its fantastic balance between elegant red fruit and structure】. The 2016 Burgundy vintage was characterized by often excellent quality, though tempered by a very short crop. This vintage is noted for its seamless and elegant character, with superb purity of red fruit, offering both structure and transparency. This wine presents elegant red fruit, with some critics noting a darker fruit profile, possibly veering towards blackberry but still with cherry notes. It has a silky texture and a sense of levitating on the palate, with a perfumed quality and lovely minerality. While initially a bit restrained, it develops layers of flavor with airing and a slight increase in temperature.
🍴 Community recommendations suggest pairing with beef, game, poultry, and veal. Its elegance and red fruit profile would also complement dishes like roasted duck breast with cherry sauce or mushroom risotto.
🥂 Perfect for a refined dinner with fellow Burgundy enthusiasts, a special anniversary, or a tasting focused on premier cru Gevrey-Chambertin. It's a wine that benefits from some air and contemplation.
BACKGROUND
Domaine Fourrier is a well-regarded wine producer based in Gevrey-Chambertin, in Burgundy's northern Côte de Nuits subregion, France. Its wines mostly made from Pinot Noir. Jean-Marie Fourrier took over his family estate in 1994, aged just 23. He worked with the legendary Henri Jayer in Vosne-Romanée in the late 1980s. The latter's influence is reflected in the domaine's fastidious approach in the vineyard and minimal intervention in the winery.
