🏰【A beautifully aged 1998 La Demoiselle de Sociando Mallet, this second wine of Château Sociando-Mallet offers a classic Bordeaux experience with evolving notes of violets, blackcurrant, pencil lead, and a hint of licorice, showcasing resolved tannins and a perfectly structured, old-school charm.】 La Demoiselle de Sociando Mallet serves as the second wine of Château Sociando-Mallet, providing an excellent introduction to the estate's distinguished style. Château Sociando-Mallet is frequently compared to the Médoc's finest Grands Crus Classés. The estate's terroir, characterized by gravel over deep clay-limestone subsoil, ensures optimal maturation for its Cabernet Sauvignon (48%) and Merlot (47%) grapes. The 1998 vintage is currently drinking exceptionally well. It shows a good medium ruby color, just beginning to turn brick-red at the edges, yet still tasting remarkably youthful. Expect secondary floral notes of violets and dried roses emerging alongside pencil lead, blackcurrant, plums, and a subtle background of genuine licorice. With aeration, it develops greater depth, with unsweetened chocolate replacing some of the licorice. The tannins are soft and balanced with acidity, leading to a mid-length finish. It's described as old-school, perfectly structured, and medium-bodied, with notes of cassis syrup, cedar, noble leather, tobacco, chocolate, and herbs.
🍴 This mature and well-structured Bordeaux is a superb accompaniment to Christmas dinner, veal roast with mushrooms, chestnuts, and parsnips. It also pairs wonderfully with Asian dishes, hearty fish courses like tuna, various mushroom and pasta dishes, and a selection of cheeses.
🥂 Perfect for a festive dinner, a gathering with friends, or a special occasion where a classic, aged red wine is desired.
This 1998 vintage is drinking very well now. Decanting for 1-2 hours is recommended to allow it to fully express its complex aromas and soften any remaining tannins. Serve at 16-18°C (60-64°F). Handle the cork and capsule with care.
