FEATURES
🏰 The 1999 vintage in Champagne was a warm year with low acidity. It had a difficult start with damaging hailstorms in early May, but a hot and dry August led to promising grapes. A damp September posed challenges, with dilution being an issue for some, but ultimately produced a large yield of sweet grapes. This Bollinger Grande Année Rosé exhibits a deep, musky aroma of blood orange, pear, white flowers, and minerals. It is fresh and focused on entry, becoming more muscular with chewy red berry and cherry flavors, and an exotic anise quality. The red fruits carry through a gently chewy finish with tangy minerals. It has a salmon-colored hue, offering terrific balance in its expansive, sweet core of fruit and expressive aromatics, with a warm, opulent, and soft, caressing texture. Further notes include baked apple, almond, butterscotch, dried apricot, brioche, and a bold, complex, toasty character with citrus freshness, peach, nutty richness, and hints of strawberry and savory complexity. 【An alternative expression of La Grande Année, uniquely transformed by the addition of still red wine from the emblematic La Côte aux Enfants plot】.
This 1999 vintage is now over two decades old, offering a beautiful evolution of tertiary aromas and a softer, more complex palate. Older corks can be fragile, so handle with care. Decanting is generally not recommended for older Champagne, as it can dissipate the delicate mousse and aromatics. Serve slightly chilled, around 10-12°C, to allow its nuanced bouquet to unfold.
🍴 This versatile Champagne pairs beautifully with a range of dishes, including seafood (especially richer fish), poultry, charcuterie, soft cheeses, and can be enjoyed as a sophisticated aperitif.
🥂 A celebratory toast, an elegant brunch, a romantic dinner, or any special occasion that calls for a refined and mature rosé Champagne.
