Meo Camuzet, Vosne Romanee Les Chaumes 1er Cru, 2009
The 2009 Meo Camuzet Vosne Romanee Les Chaumes 1er Cru is a captivating expression from a vintage noted for its ripeness and depth of fruit in Burgundy. The growing season in 2009 was exceptionally good, starting with a warm spring that led to early budburst and flowering. This Pinot Noir offers a harmonious balance of finesse and charm, characteristic of the Vosne-Romanée appellation. Critics have lauded this wine, with Wine Spectator awarding it 92 points and Robert Parker's Wine Advocate giving it 90 points. 【Its ability to balance richness with freshness in a ripe vintage makes it a standout】. It presents dark fruit flavours of black currant and blackberry, complemented by notes of licorice, menthol, and sweet spices. Some tasters also detect red fruits like raspberries and strawberries, with hints of violet, undergrowth, cedar, and cocoa. The palate is often described as velvety with dusty tannins and vibrant acidity, leading to a focused and lingering finish. While approachable now, especially with decanting, it has excellent cellaring potential, with some suggesting it can evolve harmoniously for at least another decade, developing tertiary notes of undergrowth and truffle.
🍴 This elegant red Burgundy pairs beautifully with classic dishes such as roast duck, goose, or other game birds. It also complements slow-braised beef or veal cheeks, and poultry in rich jus like Bresse chicken with morels. Mature cheeses, particularly hard cow's milk varieties, would also be an excellent match.
🥂 This wine is ideal for gastronomic dinners, special celebrations, or intimate tastings where its complex evolution can be fully appreciated. Its refined character makes it suitable for a sophisticated evening with discerning guests.
Domaine Meo-Camuzet is located in the village of Vosne-Romanee, France. The estate employs organic fertilizers and advanced cultivation techniques to maintain ecological balance in the vineyards. Coupled with the exceptional terroir and the legacy of Henri Jayer, Jean-Nicholas' efforts have elevated the estate to a top-tier winery in just a few decades. In 2003, Jean-Nicholas founded the négociant business Méo-Camuzet Frères et Soeurs. Although the grapes are purchased, the team personally supervises the vineyards to ensure the quality of the grape sources.
