🏰 The 1998 Clerico Barolo Pajana comes from Domenico Clerico, 【one of the most respected legends in Barolo, whose wines are celebrated for their extraordinary richness and striking aromatics, with Pajana known for its power, richness, and masculinity】. The 1998 Barolo vintage was a 'famous and great vintage,' though initially 'very closed and difficult to understand,' revealing its quality after fifteen or twenty years – a 'miracle that Nebbiolo can sometimes do.' This mature Barolo presents a blood red to beautiful luscious ruby red color. The nose is spicy and deep, with notes of forest floor, warm tiles, freshly cut Christmas tree, dried black cherries, rose petal, blueberries, and blackberries, along with cinnamon, tar, liquorice, roasted coffee beans, and toasted oak. The palate is full-bodied, concentrated, and muscular, with a solid core of fruit, balanced and very long, offering seamless tannins and a flawless grip. Expect sweet/sour cherries, fir wood, asphalt, and an exceptional floral character.
🍴 This powerful and complex Barolo is a superb match for rich dishes like Osso Bucco or various game meats. Its earthy and savory notes also complement truffle dishes or aged hard cheeses.
🥂 This 1998 Barolo is in its full maturity and is currently delightful, with plenty of life left. While some earlier drinking windows suggested 2004-2020, many find it still showing beautifully. It's ideal for a celebratory dinner or a special occasion where a mature, complex red wine is desired. Remember that with older wines, there's always a slight risk of cork or capsule issues, but the reward of a beautifully aged bottle is often worth it.
