FEATURES
🏰 The 2001 Barolo vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest of the last two decades, offering great depth of fruit, lively acidity, and beautiful structure for ageing. Piedmont enjoyed a great growing season with hot days and cool nights, which helped ripen grapes while retaining acidity. Nebbiolo grapes were rich, ripe, and high in tannin, resulting in powerful examples of Barolo. This vintage caps off a remarkable string of outstanding vintages for Piedmont that began in 1996. The climate featured a rainy winter, early bud break, and slightly delayed maturation, leading to excellent fruit health and a favourable acid-sugar balance.
Burlotto's Barolo Cannubi 2001 is in its early maturity and promises to improve further over the coming decade. It presents gorgeous jammy fruit on the nose, with hints of wild strawberry, high-toned floral notes, roses, and limestone. On the palate, it is sweet, tart, and mineral, bright and focused with rose petal inner mouth perfumes, earthy and raspberry notes, leading to a long, slightly mineral and gently bitter strawberry finish. This Nebbiolo from the esteemed Barolo region emanates deep ruby hues, offering a medium-bodied experience that balances elegance and richness. It possesses high acidity and notable tannins, providing a firm structure ideal for ageing, with layers of dark cherry, plum, alluring floral notes, and hints of earth and spice.
🍴 This powerful and structured Barolo is an excellent companion to rich, savoury dishes. Classic pairings include beef and venison. Consider slow-braised beef cheek, truffle pasta, or a hearty mushroom and polenta dish. For an Eastern twist, it would complement a rich Cantonese beef brisket stew or a deeply flavoured Korean galbi.
🥂 Ideal for a contemplative tasting, a special celebration, or as a prized addition to a serious wine collection. This wine has significant ageing potential and will continue to develop complexity. 【 From the legendary Cannubi vineyard, known for elegance and consistency 】
