🏰 The 2021 vintage in Burgundy was a challenging year marked by April frost and June hail, resulting in significantly reduced yields, particularly in Gevrey-Chambertin. However, skilled producers like Pierre Duroché managed to craft truly delightful wines. 【Vivid, lively, outspoken, and forward in the best sense of the word】. Domaine Duroché, under the fifth generation leadership of Pierre Duroché, is celebrated for its transparent, unforced style, minimal new oak, gentle extraction, and total fidelity to site. The 'Cuvée 26' is a special village blend from 2021, created due to the reduced yields in other parcels. It's a unique blend from lieux-dits like Le Clos, Champ, En Vosne, and even includes some 1er Cru Champeaux, Estournelles St. Jacques (whole-cluster), and Les Cazetiers (baie-par-baie). This results in an exciting and blistering village wine. Expect a wine of nervy energy and freshness, with lifted red fruit (raspberries, strawberries), a touch of earthy spiciness, and elegant potpourri and floral aromatics. The tannins are very fine, powdery, almost imperceptible, giving a light and ethereal feel, sometimes more akin to a Chambolle-Musigny than a typical Gevrey-Chambertin. This wine is delicious in its current youth and offers a beautiful introduction to the domaine and a classical Burgundy vintage that will reward patience.
🍴 This elegant Gevrey-Chambertin is a versatile food companion. It pairs beautifully with classic Burgundian dishes like coq au vin or beef bourguignon. It's also excellent with roasted poultry, duck breast, or lighter game. For a simpler pairing, consider mushroom-based dishes or a fine selection of mild, aged cheeses.
🥂 Ideal for a dinner with friends, a special family gathering, or as an insightful addition to a Burgundy tasting focused on challenging vintages. Its immediate charm and potential for graceful aging make it a rewarding choice for both current enjoyment and future cellaring.
